Spotlight Sunday

Happy Sunday Paper Wings Productions fans!  Erica here with you today to put a spotlight on the fabulous Halloween stamps available in the Paper Wings Productions shop!

If you have been a follower of The Aviary for awhile you will know that I am a huge fan of Halloween!  Last year I had so much fun creating with all the great stamps in the Paper Wings Shop and I was excited to get them all back out to create two fun cards for today's post!  You can see some past Halloween inspiration from me HERE and HERE!

For today's cards I am using the stamp sets Fall Mix it Up,  Witchy Halloween, Fall Add Ons,  and Halloween Mix it Up!  The cards are both pretty simple but I love how they turned out!  The first card I am sharing today uses Halloween Mix it Up,  Witchy Halloween and Fall Mix it Up

I used a black card base and some pattern papers from my stash for some layers.  I took a white piece of cardstock and stamped the sentiment Halloween from Witchy Halloween towards the top center of my white panel and then added the happy sentiment from Fall Mix it Up .  I just love the look of mixed font sentiments!  Next I took the super cute spider stamp from the same stamp set and stamped it along the top of my cardstock.  I ran this panel through my die cutting machine with an embossing folder adding some great embossed polka dots and added a ribbon to finish off the card.

For my shaker card I used the stamp sets Fall Add Ons and the Halloween Mix it Up.  I used some pattern paper from my stash to create my panels and the banner die cut.  I stamped out one of the ghost stamp sets from Fall Add Ons to go into my shaker.  I added the Boo sentiment from the Halloween Mix it Up stamp set, added some sequins, a clear acetate piece and framed with a yellow thin circle to complete my shaker piece.  To finish off my card I added some twine and the sentiment Happy Hauntings from the Halloween Mix it Up stamp set.

The Paper Wings Productions Store's selection of Halloween stamps is fantastic!  If you have not taken the time to look through them all I highly recommend that you do this today!  You will love the unique variety and not to mention great quality stamps available.

Thank you so much for stopping today and I hope you enjoyed my Halloween cards!  Please mark your calendars for our September blog hop happening September 5th starting right here at The Aviary!  We have a great line up and you will not want to miss it!  Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and remember to let your creativity take flight!

Featured Friday: One stamp set, Two ways!

Hey there Paper Wings Productions fans! I am glad you stopped in today. It's Kristie here again to share with you a little something'-somthin'!  I hope you find it fun and are eager to try it for yourself!

Today for Featured Friday I am doing a bit of a twist... ONE stamp set, TWO ways BUT with water-colour as the medium.

So it's kind of technique-y but also shows you what you can do with just one stamp set! Sometimes we feel like we have to have a TON of stamps, but you just need stamps you LOVE and you can have loads of fun!

The stamp set I am featuring today is the lovely Paris Clear stamp set.

For my first card, I pulled out this old large stamp block that has some grid lines etched into it.

Using Distress Inks, I rubbed my colours on my block and then spritzed it like crazy-crazy with some water:

I laid down a piece of water-colour paper over the top of the ink and let it soak in. It's really helpful to put a towel or a scrap piece of paper over the top of it to help you press the paper into the ink without making a terrible mess, but then again, that's kind of the fun part isn't it ; )

When I pulled up my paper...Voila!! It left this great colour but also a grid patter from my stamp block! It's like two textures in one go, which I love!

I embossed the Eiffel Tower image with black embossing powder

And now you get to see the crazy part of me... I usually line up my sentiment on my block and then stamp it a few times. First I want to be sure there isn't anything on my image (lint..dirt.. chocolate ;).
I want it to be a crisp image, but also straight! I have this big grid paper pad I use to stamp on. I line up the lines on my block to the lines on the pad and then see if the sentiment comes out and then adjust accordingly.
Ever since I started doing this I have saved myself a lot of crooked stamping! I love the paper pad also because it gives a little cushion, so I get a good impression every time. I just picked one up at my local stationary/book store for $2. I HIGHLY recommend it!

And that's it! You could really crank these babies out if you needed a lot and have SO much fun blending the inks. In fact, I made quite a few panels cause I love it so much! I rounded the corners of my panel and popped it up on a white card base and my card was born!

So with my first card finished I wanted to show you another way to use this stamp set with watercolors. It's definitely the most traditional way... by actually painting! (Gasp!)
I used a little masking technique to create a scene for this card.

First I stamped my chairs:

Then after creating a "chair mask" with a post-it note and placing it over the stamped chair image, I then stamped the window image overlapping the mask.

And this is my favourite part....when you remove the mask, you can see my little Paris scene! (Can you hear the music? It's like a Woody Allen movie!  ; )

Now, I'm not a water-colour-er by any stretch, but I wanted to show you a little step by step of how I watercolored my scene. I started with the neutrals and moved on to the brighter colours and detail. I added some shimmer to my little window flowers to give it some oomph... Also notice the shadow under the table and chairs. This adds some weight to the scene to help ground it. Now my chairs aren't floating on my card!

I finished off with some embellishments. I spritzed a doily with some grey spray mist. Added some crinkled silk ribbon and a hat pin. I found this fun striped vellum at my craft store and used it to mat my watercolored image.

And that's it! Two cards made with just one AMAZING stamp set! It's such a fun set to use. I keep grabbing for it again and again! So what do you think (did you make it this far? It's a long one!) Do you love to water-colour? Does it intimidate you (as it did me, for a while?) Sometimes you just have to jump in and enjoy it! I would love to hear from you so drop me a line in the comments! I would love to come pay you a visit.

Thanks so much for stopping in today!

Mixed Media Monday - Domino Matching Game

Hi Paper Wings fans! Dana here today sharing a fun set of altered dominoes. My girls have about a week of Summer left before they go back to school and I made them a matching game to help fight their boredom. New games always help keep them occupied for at least an hour or two so this project was a win-win!

I used the Vintage Domino and Nouveau Domino Cling Stamp Sets on Tando Creative Chipbaord Dominoes. After applying a light coat of gesso to both sides of the dominoes, I stamped the pretty ladies and gorgeous baroque design onto the dominoes with archival ink.

I then colored the images with Gelatos. I finished the edges of the dominoes with a black paint marker and then added a coat of glaze to both sides to seal and protect the images.

Thanks for stopping by today! There is still time to enter our August Anything Goes Challenge for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Nani Ke Ola Scrapbooking. We have been sharing the work of several talented Guest Designers this month. If you haven't seen Kristie's, Ashley's, Monica's and Marie's posts you are going to want to check them out!

Scrapbook Saturday!

Hey everyone! It's Ashley here with a guest post for Scrapbook Saturday! I have a 12x12 page to share today using the Art Textures stamp set, Mr Huey's Shine mist, gold foil wing embellishments, and the With Wings stamp set.

I really wanted to use the With Wings stamp set but the sentiment I wanted to use said "with brave wings she flies" so it was not going to work. No problem. I just masked the 's' in she and made the stamp work for my page!

The gold wings were something I really wanted to use with the With Wings stamp set; obviously they were made for each other! The gold foil didn't coordinate with my page so I altered them. I sanded the top layer of the wings to scuff them up a bit and then heat embossed with a layer of white embossing powder. Before the white layer was cool and dry, I added a layer of the fired brick embossing powder. This time I let the wings completely cool and then I added a second layer of fired brick. Since it was distress embossing powder, the wings have great dimension, some of the white layer shows through, and you can still see all their detail. I love how they look on this page!
On my patterned papers, I misted Mister Huey's Shine in a few places. I grabbed my Art Textures cling stamp set and started to build some dimension. I mixed gesso with the Shine spray and stamped the smaller circles. You can use your heating tool to help this dry more quickly. With the chicken wire stamp, I heat embossed with white and fired brick. Then I mixed more Shine mist into my gesso/Shine combo and stamped the large circles. Lastly I added some heat embossed smaller circles in fired brick.
Finally I can share my whole page...

I've linked up my products below. Thanks so much for stopping by today and thanks to the PWP girls and Carrie for having me this month! It's been a blast! :)

Themed Thursday- Halloween Tags

Hello PWP fans! It's Amber here with you today with this weeks Themed Thursday Post. My theme today is Halloween Tags and I've made two very similar tags to share with you. Both of my tags were created with Paper Wings Productions Text & Witchy Halloween Cling Stamp Sets and Paper Wings Productions Fall Add Ons & Banner Day Clear Stamp Set that we have available in our online store.

Both of my tags are almost identical, I just changed up the sentiment and some of the smaller images. Below are a few step by step photos of my process.

I started my tag by stamping one of the text stamps in some black ink onto my tag base. After I had the text stamped in black I added some black ink splatters, a sentiment, and some smaller images to the bottom right and top left of my tag. For the tag above I used the "Flying By To Say Hi" sentiment and the cute little bat from the Fall Add Ons Clear Stamp Set. For the second tag I used the "Witchy Greetings" sentiment and the little crow from the Witchy Halloween Cling Stamp Set.

After I had both of my tag bases stamped I added some black stitching all around the edges. Then I stamped and cut out two broom riding witches from the Witchy Halloween Cling Stamp Set and two banners from the Banner Day Clear Stamp Set. After I had them stamped and cut I layered the broom riding witch over the banner, added some black thread behind the two, and I then added a few large and small black sequins. You can check out a close up below.

Thanks for visiting! Don't forget we would love to see what you make with Paper Wings Productions Stamps so add your projects to our Flickr Group,to Pinterest, or leave a comment with a link to your project. You can also check out our Facebook Page and You Tube Page for daily inspiration.
